These are two digital drawings of Lake of the Isles in which I used a lot of digital smudging. I think it looks like the effect you’d get when you use oil pastels and do color blending. I think it can be too much. I prefer when it’s just a little and it looks like the edges of a shape are out of focus. Of course, representing something out of focus, only really happens in photography. If you draw from life, a shape, once you look at it in order to draw it, automatically shows up in focus.
These are drawings on my tablet (Samsung galaxy note pro, using the app Artflow). It is the same drawing that I adjusted while it went dark during the sunset. Because it’s digital it is of course possible to save several versions along the way.
When I was walking by Lake of the Isles I came across some interesting weeds in the water. They formed beautiful swirly patterns. I’ve been trying out different ways of editing the photos.
At times it’s very hard to get myself to sit down and start to write. Painting something first helps to get over to the table.
I’m working on a blog here that I can use for drawings, photos, thoughts and experiments. Like a snapshot blog or sketchbook. The blog itself is still kind of an experiment. Feel free to leave a comment.
